We all agree from the part 1 of this post that the sea of life may occasionally become way too turbulent for us. But remember, there are always life lines right? Life jackets are not worn in the heat of danger are they? No, they are worn in preparation for the possible worst, which may or may not happen. So always put on your life jacket, be on your guard and stand ready against the jolts which may or may not come.
Okay let’s take a look at some of the painful jolts of life within the office. It could be a non promotion or an office scandal. Whatever, you can rise above it. The tip is simply to be the best you can be, wherever you find yourself, whether at the office or outside the office. Take all that happens in your stride and always push on with a positive attitude.
It will definitely help if we always remember that individuals differ. No two persons are exactly alike. Are Siamese twins exactly alike? NO. So be ready to meet different personalities within the organisation as you take on your career journey.
Robert P. Vecchio in his book Organisational Behavior wrote on the different types of employees you will definitely encounter as you ply your career route.
If you fully understand the above personalities and always always have your life lines on, when the boot licker raises dust wrongly about you just to be in the bosses’ good books, remember… i warned you. When the climber gets promoted and you are not despite all your hard work, remember…..i warned you.
I will end by briefly telling the story of Itzhak Perlman as written in the book ‘You can be a world changer’. Itzhak Perlman contracted polio at the age of four and consequently lost the use of his legs. Now that is a painful blow if you ask him. But did it deter him, no. He quickly adapted to his paralysis and pursued his love of music. This isreali born soon became a hit and was presented the Medal of Freedom in a ceremony at the White House in 1986.
There are those who allow life’s tragedies to steal their dreams. Please don’t be one of them.
Have a great week ahead.
